A car wash organized by parish young people is slated to be a popular segment of Spring Fair fundraising at St. David’s. A squeaky-clean vehicle is but one of a variety of ways to contribute to an ongoing humanitarian appeal. Every car washed, plant, book, home-baking, handcraft purchase, or café visit, will help raise funds earmarked to assist a refugee family coming to Delta from Ukraine. A raffle for two gift baskets, one food and the other toiletries, is another incentive.

To further aid the local refugee relief support group, parishioner Kay Foord and helper Don Buchanan have teamed up in a creative enterprise that will offer for purchase handmade votive candles for personal and community vigils being held across the world for people of Ukraine. In these especially troubled times, votives are being widely used in acts of Christian prayer, particularly within Anglican, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic denominations. In other religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, similar offerings exist, including diyas and butter lamps.

Kay and Don’s glass votives are environmentally friendly, and use soy wax which burns more slowly and cleaner than paraffin wax. Some of these votives have hand-painted blue and yellow symbols.

Chairperson Pat Dempsey is pleased to take a leadership role in this special effort to assist Ukrainian families fleeing the atrocities of Russia’s war.
