This three-part series, The Art of Belonging, is both an invitation and a shared journey:
1. THE ART OF BELONGING
An event where newcomers, long-time artists and participants come together to share artwork and personal stories, offering a glimpse into their journeys and identities.
2. THE ART OF BELONGING: TOGETHER WE CREATE
A collaborative, hands-on art experience where artists guide participants in creating meaningful pieces. Together, we will create “Welcome to Canada” artwork to be shared as gifts with newcomers.
3. THE ART OF BELONGING: COLOURS OF COMMUNITY
An afternoon gathering featuring a shared meal and a fashion show that celebrates cultural diversity through traditional dress from various countries.
Through this series, we hope to break down barriers, foster understanding, and cultivate new relationships through shared experiences of art and learning.
Our Community Connections Team carries a deep desire that the plans we make for community engagement are guided by our aim of being spaces where all people experience welcome and belonging—not only within our building, but in every space where we gather.
Through strong relationships with newcomers, and our close partnership with Canadian Lutheran World Relief we are continually learning from the lived experiences of others.
These voices help broaden our perspective and guide us in discerning how best to support newcomers — especially women, children, and those who find themselves on the margins.
Each of the events in the series offers refreshments and an opportunity for connection – neighbour to neighbour.
