Please join the Regent College Bookstore for a conversation with Dr. Sarah Ruden about her recent publication The Gospels: A New Translation.
In this remarkable new translation of the Gospels, Dr. Ruden treats the books of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John with unprecedented precision, uniquely concentrating on the original words and sensitively reflecting on their historical and literary context. This masterful translation presents each Gospel as a narrative that can be read clear through and understood on its own terms. In her skillful and illuminating introduction, Dr. Ruden explains where the Gospels came from, how their forms evolved, and how they set about revolutionizing world thought.
Dr. Sarah Ruden is currently a visiting researcher in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She has translated a number of ancient literary works, among them Virgil’s Aeneid and Augustine’s Confessions. She is also the author of Paul Among the People: the Apostle Reinterpreted and Reimagined in His Own Time and The Face of Water: A Translator on Beauty and Meaning in the Bible.
