For Ukrainian Catholics, Easter is all about family, tradition, and church. That’s why four parishes in the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of New Westminster are holding bake sales again this spring.
“Food has always been part of festivity. If the family is spread all over, it is a possibility to get together and spend quality time laughing, singing, and eating,” said Gregory Barabakh, a member of Dormition of the Mother of God Parish in Richmond.
A few days before the great celebration of Jesus’s resurrection, volunteers will prepare sweet bread, sausage, pies, perogies, cabbage rolls, and red beets with horseradish: all traditional Easter treats.
The goods will be for sale at four Ukrainian churches, and the funds generated will go straight toward those parishes.
