Canadian opera star, Ben Heppner, will be the featured speaker at the 2016 Chancellor’s Dinner, sharing his ideas and experience as a man of faith intersecting with the world of music. The topic for his multi-media presentation will be ‘Sacred and Profane – A Remix’. Mr. Heppner was born to a farming family of Mennonite immigrants in Murrayville BC, raised in Dawson Creek, and began his musical training at UBC. He enjoyed a meteroic career in the world of opera, winning numerous awards and appearing in roles at the Metropolitan Opera and in all the major opera houses in Europe and throughout the world. Ben is well-known to CBC listeners as the host of Saturday Afternoon at the Opera, and Backstage with Ben Heppner. Retired from full-time singing, Heppner continues to teach master classes and coaching sessions. A man of strong religious beliefs and active in his church community he is a supporter of many civic and philanthropic causes and we are delighted Ben Heppner will join with our VST community for a great evening of celebration.
