About the seminar:
Have you ever thought, “I wish I could understand what is going through this young person’s mind, because it sure doesn’t make sense to me”? If this is you, don’t be alarmed
Recent research has shown that the human brain is not fully developed until the age of 25. This means that it is only natural that youth and adolescents will think and act differently than you do (or more likely act without thinking). Therefore, the key to understanding youth is not in forcing them to think like adults, but rather learning how they think and then loving them by entering their world.
This seminar is for parents, teachers, pastors, youth leaders; anyone who loves and interacts with youth on a regular basis. Our hope is that you will be equipped to better understand young people in order to healthily walk alongside them as they become committed disciples of Jesus.
About Peter Anderson:
Peter grew up in a home that was “invaded” every Wednesday night by 50 or more teenagers. He was able to watch his parents share God’s love with students in an amazingly gracious and consistent way. In high school Peter soon discovered that he too was passionate about ministering to his teenage peers and he began serving as a student leader in his church youth group. Upon graduation, Peter attended Olivet Nazarene University and pursued a BA in Youth Ministry. During this time, God confirmed his call to youth ministry while giving him the opportunity of serving with Youth for Christ.
In the fall of 2005, Peter moved to Vancouver to pursue a Masters of Divinity degree at Regent College. He soon was volunteering with the youth at West Point Grey Baptist Church and has now served on staff as their youth and young adult pastor for nearly 8 years.
Peter has developed a holistic approach to Youth Ministry called Kurios (www.kurios.ca) and its mission statement summarizes well his heart for youth: “Our hope at Kurios is that students will come to know the God who loves them and what he has done for them in Jesus Christ, that they will grow as disciples of Jesus Christ daily, that they will show others what it means to be a Christian, and that their lives will flow with the deep, deep joy of Christ; all as the Holy Spirit works in their lives.”
