The public ministry of Jesus was marked by his care for the destitute sick and Jesus must remain at the centre of Catholic Health Care.

Care for the sick, the oppressed, and the poor are essential parts of the mission of Catholic healthcare.

How can you be involved in a healthcare system that cares for the most vulnerable?

This talk will explore how the care for the sick, the oppressed, and the poor are essential parts of the mission of Jesus’ followers, guided by the Holy Spirit.

While considering a global health context and local challenges, promotion of health and wellbeing is an effort that needs to combine medical care for the sick, community participation, and practices to build justice. To achieve these goals, Catholic health institutions can play a huge role and offer a great contribution.

“The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and to sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year acceptable of the Lord “(Luke 4: 18). This is a text from the Prophet Isaiah that Jesus read in a Synagogue in Nazareth, presenting it as a project of his public ministry.

The poor, and oppressed, and the sick are central in this project, a Christological foundation for the mission of the Church, that continues the historical ministry of Jesus.
