The Mennonite Heritage Museum, 1818 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, is proud to present the astonishing fabric art of quilter Lois A. Klassen. The gallery opening reception will take place Saturday, 16 June 2018, and the exhibit will run until August 31. Entry to the Museum is by donation.
Lois A. Klassen’s quilts are not meant to be bed coverings but are intended to be hung on a wall and appreciated as one would view a painting. She enjoys working in series, and in this exhibit three distinct series will be on display. Her more traditionalist work featuring triangles and hexagons contrasts with an improvisational style in which images emerge. This exhibit will showcase a third series, “Dark Matter,” in which quilts are made by appliquéing scraps onto a black background.
The fabric artwork of Lois A. Klassen has appeared on the cover of a book of poems by local writer Robert Martens, and was included in the April/May 2018 issue of Quilting Arts magazine.
Lois Klassen’s creations are a stunning example of the international trend towards quilting as art form. Don’t miss this exhibit.
Exhibition runs from June 16, 2018 – August 31, 2018
