oin us this fall as we launch the inaugural Dr. Vincent Paul Sweeney Lecture in Medical Ethics, honouring the life and legacy of Dr. Vincent Paul Sweeney. This annual lecture invites our community to explore pressing questions in medical bioethics.
St. Mark’s College, the Catholic Graduate School of Theology at UBC, is committed to bringing world‑renowned scholars to our community each year to foster dialogue that inspires compassion, justice, and a deeper understanding of human dignity.

About Dr. Vincent Sweeney
Dr. Vincent Paul Sweeney (1930–2017) was a neurologist, educator, and pioneer of medical ethics in Canada. Trained at Georgetown, Harvard, and Massachusetts General Hospital, he served as Professor of Medicine and a founding Director of the Biomedical Ethics Program at UBC, shaping generations of physicians and earning honours including UBC’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the Dr. William Marsden Award from the Canadian Medical Association.
